Department of Mathematics
Department of Mathematics was established in 2015 with the introduction of the B. Sc. Mathematics degree programme under CBCSS. Apart from Mathematics core courses, the department offers Mathematics as complementary courses for Physics and Chemistry degree programmes. The department also offers two courses for Economics degree programme. The open course offered by the department for students from non-Mathematics degree streams is Operations Research. In addition to the regular courses for the degree programmes, the department offers a certificate course in Quantitative Techniques which helps the students to equip for competitive examinations.
A high standard is maintained in the department through efficient teaching and training, mentoring programmes and various activities. The department conducts an open house in each semester and the performance of students is discussed with their parents. At present the staff strength is 5.

National Webinar
A national webinar on the topic “Mathematical Optimal Control Theory” was conducted by the department on 26th August through Google Meet platform. Dr. Manil T. Mohan, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, was the resource person. More than 100 participants from various colleges joined the webinar.
International Webinar
An international webinar on the topic “KSS Nambooripad: The Uncelebrated Genius” was conducted by the department on 17th September 2020 through Google Meet platform. Dr. Azeef Muhammed P. A, Prince Mohammed University, Saudi Arabia was the resource person. 177 participants from various colleges attended the webinar.
PI DAY
Department of Mathematics of Mother Theresa College celebrated “PI” day 2021 on 15th March 2021 at 11.30 am. Principal of the College, Dr. K. M. Francis inaugurated the event. Dr. James Alexander, Head of the Department of Mathematics, enlightened the students about the importance of Pi as well as the effort and hard work behind every invention. Mr. Gokul P, the IQAC Coordinator of Mother Theresa College, also felicitated the audience. Documentary on Pi named ‘The History of Pi’ was screened. Uma Santhosh of S4 Mathematics delivered a speech on the facts about Pi. Chinmayi J.S. of S4 Mathematics hosted the event and Krishnaja V.S. of S4 Mathematics delivered the vote of thanks.
