Mass Communication is a global concept as well as a need of the hour. Unlike any other programmes the Department of Mass Communication offers a professional course which equips the tyros with the necessary skills and qualities to become professionals in the field of Mass Communication. The department is headed by Mr. P. V. Murukan, who is an experienced senior journalist. The other faculty members of the department are also experts in various fields of Mass Communication. Their teaching experience is reflected in the academic success rate of the department and has been able to produce university rank holders every year. At the end of this degree course, the students are sure to attain practical and theoretical knowledge about the different faces of Mass
Communication.

NATIONAL WEBINAR SERIES
The Department of Malayalam and Mass Communication is extremely proud to have successfully conducted its first ever national webinar series from 28th of September 2020 to 1st of October 2020, on the theme “Language, Literature, Culture and Media”. The webinar series marked its beginning with an inaugural speech by the Principal Dr. K. M. Francis.
Day one – 28th September 2020
The resource person for the day was Dr. Ashokan Nambiar from the Manipal Centre for Humanities, Mahe. He presented his expert views and analysis on the topic “KANDATHIL VARGHESE MAPPILAI AND THE WORLD OF WRITING AND PRINTING IN THE 19TH CENTURY KERALA”. The main areas focused were the development of literature in accordance with the advancement in printing technology in the 19th century and the contributions made by the famous journalist Sri. Kandathil Varghese Mappilai. The webinar was loaded with useful information for the students.
Day two -29th September 2020
The second day was quite unique and rich in content with two separate sessions by two different resource persons. The first session was handled by Dr. R. Harichandran, who serves as the Head of the Department of Malayalam, Mar Ivanios College of Arts and Science, Mavelikkara. His presentation was on the topic “MALAYALA BHASHAYUM SAHITHYAVUM – EZHUTHACHANU MUNPU”. The second session was led by an eminent writer, Dr. Manoj Kuroor on the topic “THATHVA CHINTHAYUM NAVODHAANAVUM”. Both the sessions had set forth a great deal of knowledge regarding language and philosophy to the students.
Day three – 30th September 2020
The webinar on the third day was a completely different experience for the participants as the topic discussed was on Malayalam and Tamil novels. The resource person Dr. S. M. Abdul Razak, Head and Dean of Arts, PG and Research Department of Tamil, The New College, Chennai, with his attention-grabbing presentation, made sure that the students thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from it as well.
Day four – 1st October 2020
This was the final day of the webinar series and as the saying goes – what begins well, ends well.
The session for the day was handled by Dr. Bettimol Mathew, Head of the Department of Malayalam, V.T.M. N.S.S. College, Dhanuvachapuram. The topic discussed was “ AADHUNIKATHA- ORU STHREEPAKSHA APAGRADHANAM”. The students came up with numerous questions regarding the topic which made it more interactive and engaging.
Altogether the webinar series was a complete success, enriched with valuable information and new experience which would prove to be a boon to the students.
A certificate course in SARGATMAKA BHASHA AND MALAYALA PATHRA BHASHA
It is a course offered along with other subjects of Malayalam and Mass Communication which would give an insight to the students regarding the mass media.
Course Objective:-
The aim of the course is to develop the language skills of the students which is the main tool especially in the field of print media. It also helps the students to understand the difference between the creative language used in literature and the day to day language used in writing for the media.
