The Department of Economics started functioning in 2014 with one UG course in Economics under the career-related Choice Based Credit and Semester System of the Kerala University. The course intends to familiarise the students with the broad contours of social sciences, specifically Economics, its methodologies, tools and analysis procedures.

The department offers an opportunity to aspiring students to acquire profound knowledge in theory, policy and research. The content of the syllabus is rich in terms of theory,  especially micro economics and macro economics, with core papers such as Econometrics, Statistics and Mathematics.

The department also offers an open course in Human Resource Management to students from non-economics degree streams. It has launched an add-on course in Financial System in 2021.

The department fares well in all the university exams since its inception. It has secured ranks in the Kerala University final degree examinations in the previous years.

The department headed by Dr. V. Surendran Nair, is accompanied by two Assistant Professors as members of the teaching  faculty.
