Department of History
The Department of History was established on 1st Jully 2014. It offers complementary courses to the students of BA English Language and Literature as well as Economics. Dr Sathiyaraj A. who retired as Associate Professor of History from Fatima Mata National College, Kollam, Kerala, teaches History of Modern World and History of Modern India to the English and Economics students respectively. Besides, the department offers a certificate course, ‘ Society and Medicine in Modern Kerala’. Programmes like quiz competitions, seminars, webinars and group discussions are conducted to create genuine interest in the course and score maximum marks. Online quiz competitions on civil service examinations pattern are also held to enable the students to appear for competitive examinations. Guest lectures are given to the students on virtual platforms.
VISION
The Department of History aims to make the students aware of India’s struggle against colonial hegemony and understand the developments in post-independent India. We are also confident that the study of Modern World History will help them to think as global citizens.
MISSION
Motivate the students to read the events without bias and prejudice. Create in them a longing to serve the nation and be watchful of the snares of neocolonialism. Make them ambassadors of peace and harmony. Empower them to historicise the issues and learn to address them with confidence and positive outlook.

Webinar ( 06/08/2020)
A webinar on “Reverberations of Hiroshima and Nagasaki” was conducted on Google platform in connection with the Hiroshima Day Celebrations 2020. Ms. Keerthana Santhosh, Assistant Professor of History, St. Mary’s College ( Autonomous), Thoottukudi was the resource person. The webinar was meant for the NSS volunteers and the students of English literature who have opted Modern World History as complementary course.
